The Touch

Janet Menzies reveals the secret story of beating the bookies

A RACY NEW BOOK LOOKING FOR A PUBLISHER

Landing a touch means winning a life-changing sum of money by betting on a horse that's under the radar to win at good odds from the bookie.  This book tells the glamorous story of how it is being done today, and in the past. Somewhere, in a racehorse trainer’s kitchen or on a gambler’s smartphone there is a touch underway right now. Get the inside story here by clicking the links to extracts

This is
The Touch
be a part of it

With contributions from those involved, The Touch takes the reader right inside horseracing, a sport that is not only one of Britain's major industries, but also the most beguiling and addictive of lifestyles.

Starting from the author's personal memory of being part of a touch as a small child, this story is colourful, glamorous, rackety and mostly legal.

Think of Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen meets Royal Ascot

About Me:

Brought up a few miles from Aintree, the home of the Grand National, horse racing is in my DNA, and I spent most of my teens and 20s putting into action my plan of making enough money to buy a racehorse.  With a degree in English from Cambridge University, immediately followed by the sole annual graduate traineeship at The Daily Telegraph, Jan’s Plan was soon successful, and I was able to buy Brave Setanta, left, by the time I was 30.

A side-effect of the plan was success as a journalist.  I wrote and edited The Daily Mail’s Update page, the first style column on Fleet Street.  I then became launch features editor of Hello! magazine before returning to tabloids to be women’s editor of The Daily Express.  In due course the lure of sport overcame me, and I went freelance which gave me time to get many non-fiction books published and to pick up an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University.  Meanwhile the racehorses have got better, and a few touches have been landed, and I was elected to the board of directors of the Racehorse Owners Association. Will this book reveal Jan’s Plan in full?  Will you too land a Touch? You have to be in it to win it: The Touch is On!
